I’ve had a bee nest box for a few years and I was aware the chances of it being used were slim. But finally, this year we have bees!
The box has a slide back lid so I can look through a perspex window at the inside, and I noticed it looked a bit different in the box. I kept checking back, and the day before yesterday I finally saw a few bees in there, and I took the video yesterday.
The box is positioned in our raspberry/black currant frame so the bees have food right on their doorstep 🙂 I’m excited to have them nesting, and to see what happens next.
This is what the box looks like.
And this is its current position.
I took a few photos inside the box as well, but they are really bad! Awkward to photograph, and I didn’t want to disturb the bees for long.
If anyone can positively ID them from this I’d be impressed! They look to be black with a reddish tail to me, so I wonder if they are red tailed bumbles!? I’ll have to observe them and try to get a better look so I can be sure.
