Let’s talk sparrows!
Previously I’d seen Sparrows taking an interest in the Swift box again this year, the male checking it out, calling females who have a look, but nothing to suggest more.
Now, for the past few days, I’ve been seeing male and female going in and out. I thought they must have chicks, and I kept watching. I believe I can hear chicks call as the parents visit 😀
I’ve also captured (wobbly) video evidence.
I’m pleased they’ve nested in our garden again, though presumably it’s a different pair if the Male was calling…? And even if they’ve stolen the Swift box again.
The Sparrow community has also been taking advantage of our extra top soil. We had a load from digging trenches for our little landscaping project, so we used it to level bits of the lawn, and now it’s dried out, it’s perfect for a good dust bath!
We’re pretty sure blue tits have built a nest in our sparrow terrace, they’ve sure taken a lot of nesting wool! But I’m going to have to keep an eye out and see if they’re actually using it.
Any nests in your patch? Let me know.
