It’s time to put in writing what I plan for the garden this year. Let’s see how much I get done by the end of the year!
For a long time I’ve been planning to get a climber to grow up our patio roof construction. I’ve been waiting to get one because I need to finish painting first, I only managed one coat last year. Today it was warm enough I could crack open the paint can again, but it will be a while before the second coat is finished. When it is I can fix a bit of trelis as a support to the outside of the middle post, and get a climber in!
I also need to plant out a Photina cutting to the front garden, but it needs to grow some more first.
I’ve already talked about putting up some of our boxes, but we had a couple waiting to go up because they also needed to go on the patio construction. They went up today.
Oval flower bed
This flower bed has been taken over by grass quite a bit over the winter. It used to be lawn not so long ago, and it’s growing back. I have a lot of work to do pulling it all out, avoiding any plants growing in there too.
I have mycorrhizal fungi, eco worm fertiliser, and compost to use. It will be our first time digging compost our of our new home made compost bin!
I have a pyracantha that could do with some support. It’s right by a fence, so we may try to fix some trelis or wires in there.
I have some herb seed that came with a ladybird box that I need to find space to use. I’m hoping to get a nice planter to grow them in.
I’d love to make a mouse house. We saw a wood mouse, and though it was quite a while ago, I’d like to encourage the little critters to nest in our patch. I want more solitary bee tubes too.
I don’t know if I will be able to afford this but I want so set up a camera on the feeders.
Again, I don’t know if the expense would be sensible right now, but I’d love to have running water in the garden.
Non-wildlife garden projects
Re-grout the patio.
Scrape up slate chips from front garden and replace with bark.
Under planting – thinking far ahead to when our strawberry tree and other shrubs are bigger, I really want to under plant them with shade loving flowers.
I’m sure I’m forgetting things, and that more things will crop up!
What are your plans?
