Recently the volunteer group I’m part of did a bit of pond clearance!
We usually make sure public footpaths through woodland are clear by cutting up and stacking fallen trees, repairing/creating steps and bridges, and so on. But this pond is in a public area, and we getting overgrown. Plus, we’re keen on helping wildlife where we can, so the pond needed a tidy.
It had loads of stuff growing just under the surface, masses and masses of it, so we mostly just pulled this out with a grappling hook, and cleared some of the edge plants that we starting to take over.
I’m no pond expert but the water looks more habitable now. We make sure not to go overboard and clear everything though – we left vegetation for the wildlife (though there isn’t much there at the moment, hopefully we’ve helped on that score). No doubt it’ll all grow back fast.
It’s nice to do something new 🙂
