Abscission (from the Latin ab, meaning away, and scindere, meaning to cut) is the shedding of various parts of an organism, such as a plant dropping a leaf, fruit, flower, or seed.
The silver birch in our garden are becoming a riot of colour
And they have been decorating our lawn!
We’ve now cleared this up a bit – the leaf litter will be mulch and compost. Some will be put in a small pile for any critters in the garden, perhaps our slow worms will like it.
The newish Guelder rose looks pretty
I have been doing a bit of pruning and tidying up in the garden, but not too tidy – I always leave bits for the wildlife.
We’ve also been working on our new patio cover construction. I sanded the wooden parts today; we’re going to fill in any little gaps and knots, and when that’s dry and sanded I’ll paint it all a shade of green. I’m hoping to get this done before it gets too cold to paint – with any luck, I’ll start tomorrow.
How colourful is your garden this autumn?
