I’m embracing autumn and I’ve been doing autumnal tasks in the garden today.
What have I been up to?
- Composting: The compost bin is full again! Plant prunings and the rest of the hay off the meadow have gone in 🙂 I did use a little hay under our laurels – I wanted to leave a few little piles for the slow worms and other critters.
- Pruning plants: I’ve been chopping out all the dead bits from my perennials, I’ve left out some seed heads for birds to eat, and I’ve placed some hollow stems around the garden for bugs to over winter inside.
My strawberry tree is starting to flower 🙂
Still on the to do list (along with lots of other things)
- Pruning shrubs: All our big, established shrubs need a good pruning!
- More mulching: We’ll shred some of the prunings and use that as mulch to fertilise and protect the plants, and feed the worms and more of natures recyclers.
I’m happy so much is still flowering in the garden, I have a few photos to share soon. The borage is still going strong, my new verbena has flowered, and I didn’t expect some candytuft to flower.. Also our blackcurrent has buds on it :s
How is your garden fairing? Are you embracing autumn?
