Spotted this poor young Starling today in the garden and it only has one leg.
Obviously it has some trouble getting around, with it’s balance, and pulling food out of the ground. I don’t think there’s anything we can do for it – we already put food out everyday.
I don’t know what it’s chances of survival are; I’ve seen many birds doing fine with malformed legs, but this is the first I’ve seen with one missing. It has survived this long, but now it will be fending for itself. It looks like it is managing to feed itself, but it’s a bit of a struggle. If it can get enough food I hope it’ll be OK.
I wonder what happened to it’s other leg, I guess it was born that way?
[Sorry about the video quality. It was a spontaneous, hand held, through the window job.]
