Earlier this autumn we discovered we have a frog living in the garden. Usually our sightings of frogs and toads are few and far between but we saw this critter day after day.
As you can see I managed to get some pictures of it but we tried not to disturb it too much.
It would make me jump while I was gardening!
I decided to make a frogitat for it to live in. We made it from an upturned flower pot, a shaped wooden roof and rocks. I looked at frogitats for sale to see what we could do.
It’s positioned near some foxglove the toad tends to hide in. Underneath there is a flat rock shelf positioned so the toad can be on the shelf or on the ground depending on how warm it is – this seemed to be a feature in other frogitats.
As the flowerbed evolves it should provide more cover.
I’ve not seen froggy go in the frogitat and I’ve not disturbed it to find out. I haven’t seen the frog for a while… maybe it’s in there or maybe it moved on. Either way the frogitat is there for any future residents 🙂
Edited to add: the frog didn’t take up residence and we’ve moved the frogitat to some where more moist and sheltered.
