Early last month (I know, how late at blogging this am I?) our garden had some exciting visitors.
On October 4th this swooped down!
Yes, it’s a Sparrowhawk 😀 It’s not our first, but they don’t visit often. Well, actually I feel like they do visit more often now the garden is better and we see more birds generally, but it could be wishful thinking! Though we have seen evidence of kills – patches of feathers on the ground and Dad saw one fly over with a kill not too long ago.
Anyway, the Sparrowhawk caught a what I believe was a blackbird. It pulled off some feathers and flew off with it.
Sorry the shots aren’t great – I had to be quick and couldn’t open the patio door for fear of scaring it off.
On October 5th I was in the garden and heard a call. I recognised it and looked skywards… I was right, Buzzards circling over head! They were climbing, I assume using updraughts. I managed to get a few photos.
They climbed fast and my zoom wasn’t big enough to do better than this:
Lovely seeing them none the less 😀
