Since my last update I have continued work on our garden. We have dug out a large oval from the lawn which will become a new flower bed.
Once it is prepared there will be rocks around the outside. I have ordered new plants and seeds to fill it up, all chosen for their benefit to wildlife.
I have planted a new tree! It’s a strawberry tree; it’s evergreen and will provide shelter, fruit and flowers. It’ll be good for birds and bees.
New bird boxes have been put up for Sparrows and Great tits. The single one has a camera in it… no takers yet!
One of our bird baths looks good in the meadow.
This is our new log pile…
..and tree stumps provide perches for the birds and will become food for insects.
This dry stone rock wall ends the border now and will provide homes for insects and maybe lizards.
Outlook before most of the project [March 2013]
Outlook last autumn
I have more seed for the meadow and I will sow it in the autumn after hay making, I’m adding some more species of wild flower.
Down the edge of our garden behind some small shrubs we are letting the grass grow long and nettles, docks and dandelions come up for the caterpillars.
